Color draws me to
the clothes rack
Sale or no sale
color ignites me
A brightly painted tuxedo shirt
hanging in the gift shop
The Denver Art Museum
a quick stop to look and buy
Brightly painted shirts sold to
raise funds for AIDS research
My closet houses many jackets
and shirts of bright colors
My sock drawer is
home for colorful socks
I am an artist
I do not wear black
My paintings engage
the entire color- wheel
In our world of drab
political news
Where many suffer from inequities
the rich get richer on the backs of the poor
My day is brightened
when I reach in the closet
For a brightly colored
shirt or jacket
And slip my feet
Into colorful socks
From top to bottom
color leads me out
Of the closet
to take on the world.
