We are pleased to announce four poets selected for the Adirondack Center for Writing’s Postcard Poems project: Jackie Braje, Joseph Bruchac, Laura Cordts, and Sophie Morelli. Their poems were selected from over 100 submissions from across New York State. Many thanks to all of the writers who shared their work with us!
Each selected writer will have their poem featured on a 5×7-inch broadside, complete with custom artwork created by artists living in New York. Both writers and artists will be compensated for their work, and broadsides are available for sale through ACW with proceeds going to support community programs.
A poetry broadside is an ephemeral and collectible small work of art featuring a poem printed on one side of a thick sheet of paper. Broadsides are sometimes signed by the poet and include illustrations or other visual design elements. They can be traded, sold online and at events, exhibited at galleries, fairs, and community arts centers, and collected by libraries.
All four broadsides will be released throughout the winter, with the first one launching in late November. They can be purchased individually or as a “subscription” (all four over time) at https://adkctr4writing.bigcartel.com/. A broadside or subscription would make a great gift as we move into the holiday season!
Meet the poets
Jackie Braje is a Brooklyn based poet and the Chief Operating Officer of The Poetry Society of New York. With Stephanie Berger she co-founded Milk Press, and previously served as a poetry editor for The Brooklyn Review. Her work has been published in VOLT, The Los Angeles Press, Ugly Duckling’s Second Factory, Ninth Letter, the minnesota review, Statorec, The Quarterless Review, The Westchester Review, Stoneboat, and elsewhere. Her chapbook, “408”, was published by Bottlecap Press in 2022. She received her MFA in poetry from Brooklyn College, where she also teaches as adjunct writing professor.
Since his first publication in a student literary magazine in 1963, Joseph Bruchac’s poems —which often reflect the Adirondack region and his Abenaki ancestry—have appeared in hundreds of magazines and anthologies. Laura Cordts was named “Class Poet” in 4th grade. Following a 45 year poetry hiatus, she returned to writing after retirement. Her work has been published in Blueline Magazine and Amethyst Review, with SLC Arts, and as part of the Adirondack Center for Writing’s Poem Village project. Cordts lives in Hannawa Falls, NY, where she spends her days puttering around in the kitchen, garden, the woods, and on the page.
Sophie Morelli is an Adirondacks-based poet holding a bachelor’s degree in English Literature and Writing, as well as a Master’s Degree in English Education, both from SUNY Potsdam. She was an ACW Anne LaBastille Resident in the fall of 2023 and has work featured with Querencia Press. She is currently working for the New York Farm Bureau and learning so, so, so much about cows.Â

Postcard Poems is a collaboration between Visiting Writer Erin Dorney and the Adirondack Center for Writing as part of the Creatives Rebuild New York (CRNY) Artist Employment Program. CRNY, a project of the Tides Center, is a three-year, $125 million investment in the financial stability of New York State artists and the organizations that employ them.
