Beyond the Power Line
by Daphne Seaman (Age 14, Long Lake, NY)
Falling like a feather
Deep in thought
Grouped like a family
Birds on a power line
Slow and steady
The sun sets low
High above all
Birds on a power line
Busy street
Honking horns
Quick feet
A woman mourns
Wheels rolling
Like a tear down her face
Birds on a power line
Precious as gold
Life passes by
Like rain falling bold
Harsh thunder strikes
Birds on a power line
Free as can be
Life busy below
Like a feather on the breeze
Confused and clouded
They sing their mourning song
Birds on a power line
