Early in the pandemic ACW’s Nathalie Thill helped Betsy Folwell launch a new project, making Folwell’s 2009 anthology an audiobook. They used the ACX platform designed by Audible.com to post a sample, which garnered 60 auditions.
Four months and many hours of editing later, Short Carries: Essays from Adirondack Life Magazine became available as an 8 hour, 16 minute audiobook available through iTunes, Audible and Amazon.
Narrated by Linda Jones, a talented actor based in Brooklyn, the collection includes many pieces that were not in the original 2009 book published by Adirondack Life. These essays are about wildlife and wilderness, regional history and small-town life, with keen observations and a touch of humor.
According to Folwell, “Other people took on epic baking projects as a response to COVID-19 while I embarked on learning new technology to make my book something new and something accessible to people like me, the visually impaired who can’t read conventional materials.” Jones was part of another COVID project, “Voices of Calm” which was posted on Youtube. Below are links to her readings of two essays from Short Carries.
