Starting at my house and zooming out you’ll see some cows in the field across the
street.
Next there’s a town office building that was built a few years after I moved in. I
remember when a tractor pull once took place there before the building came along.
The town barn with snow plows and other equipment is next. That’s on a site where
a trolley barn once stood. It was about midway on the trolley line that ran north and south
through the county.
The Community Center comes next, formerly the gymnasium for the local school.
The high school played basketball games there until the late 1950s.
A cemetery is to the north with so many significant graves including some veterans
who were in both World War I and II. A creek flows nearby on its way to the south end of
the county to join a major river.
The center of town including three churches follows. Eric Sloane once wrote that
years ago the church steeples were the first thing you saw when approaching a town.
A convenience store with a gas station is at the south end. There used to be several
other places to buy gas years ago. Some store buildings are still around, now used for
different new businesses.
Beyond that you’ll see rolling hills and farmland. I’m fortunate to live in a scenic
area. A visiting musician once said “It’s like a postcard, you guys are lucky.”
