Walking sunspots through the yard, the light inviting me to warm my shoulders. It seems the garden snakes have the same idea. Down beside the cottonwood along the boards of this weathered dock.

They make no sound but for the noises that envelop their bodies in motion. Low, crisp leaves and soft dry grasses. Giving way to my wonder. A sudden convergence weaving in and around from every direction. Crossing over each other, swirling invisible paths along the ground. Made sense only once they intuited their heading. Gone again as quickly as they arrived; tucking away somewhere beyond human perception.

I wait in the sun’s embrace, warming myself like the bees on the nearly spent wildflowers before me. Left musing about the Caduceus and where the snakes have gone.
