What if I could be myself,
Not someone placed on a shelf.
Not be judged by society,
Raised according to propriety.
What if I took the wheel of my life,
My goals and wishes apply.
Not be deterred in what I sought,
Or be the person others thought.
My children would remain the same,
Except for two I hereby name.
Christina would live and thrive,
Stephanie would still be by my side.
What if I could have stayed in the Army,
Make it part of my life’s journey.
Whilst rising through the ranks,
And continuing my educational plan.
What if Michael would still be in my life,
We would unite, My soul mate would not die.
Our family would be complete.
And perhaps another, two or three.
Oh, what a lovely picture this would be,
The perfect life, the perfect me.
But life does not always follow the dream,
The twist and turns can change the scene.
So my advice to all who read my words,
Take care, put thought to life’s curves.
The visions you hold of what could be,
Comes with the work you put in…no guarantees.
