We are deeply saddened by the loss of our longtime friend, Stuart Allen Barrow, Jr., aka Stu.

Stu was a master gardener and lifelong environmentalist. He loved birds, insects, and the stars. He wrote many books of poetry, but had recently turned to haiku.

One of Stu’s many haiku was featured in our first iteration of Raining Poetry:

“all their wings together
make the same song
Bumblebees”

This poem appeared on the sidewalk in Saranac Lake whenever it rained, and it made us smile every time.

Last week in our e-news, we asked our audience to write a haiku in honor of Stu and these are some of the responses we received along with one of Stu’s haiku from his collection Quaking Marsh.
