Cut-Up Poetry Workshop

May 25, 2024 @ 9:30 am 11:30 am

Note: This workshop is held at The Richards Library in Warrensburg, NY.

Join Visiting Writer Erin Dorney from the Adirondack Center for Writing to learn more about ACW’s Poetry Machine—the kind you might spend two quarters to get a bouncy ball, sticky hand, or small plastic alien from in the vestibule of a convenience store. With ACW’s repurposed machine, you can get your very own poem for free—no quarters necessary. After checking out the machine, Dorney will teach a FREE workshop on cut-up poetry, where text from discarded books, magazines, and newspapers is physically cut up and rearranged to create a poem. Think collage—but with words!

Participants will make cut-up poems and fold them to put inside the machine and be shared with readers across the Adirondack region. All supplies provided. No writing experience required. For all ages old enough to use scissors and glue.

ACW’S Poetry Machine will be at The Richards Library for the month of May – located in the Adult Room. Program supported by The Richards Library and Discover Warrensburg! Museum of Local History.
