Barkreaders: Jane Boxall + Poem Village Celebration
May 14, 2024 @ 7:00 pm – 8:00 pm
Join us for a special reading of Jane Boxall’s new collection of experimental haiku, followed by an open mic reading of poems featured in Poem Village 2024. If you’re a poet who contributed to Poem Village 2024, you’re invited and encouraged to get on the mic and share your work aloud!

Jane Boxall is an adventurous percussionist and writer, working internationally across diverse genres. Her writing has been published recently by Gutter, Last Stanza, Channel, Dream Pop Press, Hungry Hill Writing, Poems Please Me, and Ó Bhéal, and less-recently in Just Seventeen magazine. Jane has been shortlisted for the 2018 Keats-Shelley Prize in poetry, the Ouse Washes Poetry Competition, and the Erbacce Prize.
Born in England and raised in Scotland, Jane completed her doctorate in Percussion Performance and Literature in Illinois, before moving to the North Country in 2008. She works as a paramedic, freelance musician and writer.
More about Jane Boxall’s new book: Please Don’t Need Everything it Hurts is a collection of 30 new haiku. Composed entirely in her Android smartphone messaging app, these poems make use of a strict technological constraint. Boxall used the predictive text feature to select from the phone’s suggested words in order to build each haiku. The poems were then hand written into a limited edition of 40 zines, available for sale at the reading.
