A Line As Long As the Heart Is Wide: Reading and Writing with the Poetry of Larry Levis
March 9 @ 7:00 pm – April 6 @ 8:30 pm
This February, Graywolf Press will release Swirl & Vortex, the collected poetry of Larry Levis, offering a unique opportunity to be in the company of the voice of a poet whose work offered a kind of music to the sometimes lonely and often beautiful depth inside of us that we have come to call a soul. In this six-week online class, students will sit entirely and only with Larry Levis’ poetry, exploring his devotion to the soul, to music, to story, and to the long line of poetry that proved capable of holding all of that complexity. Each week will be structured around a singular thematic or craft-based concept in relation to Larry Levis’ work, and each week students will also receive generative prompts modeled after Levis’ poetry. Through conversation, close-reading, storytelling, and creative writing, students will leave this class with a deep appreciation for the long and winding music of Larry Levis’ poetry, and with an opportunity to find that music in their own writing. For lovers of Levis and newcomers to his work alike, this class offers six weeks of poetry filtered straight through the heart, and into the soul.
Mondays | Mar 9 – Apr 6 | 7-8:30 PM | $80-$300
