If you’ve been meaning to make your writing life a part of your daily life, ACW Open Hours is here for you. You can use our space to work, unwind, or meet other readers and writers in our community. We also have a Teen Lounge where teenagers can write, read, and build community after school. All are welcome!
In Second Place, the recent novel by Rachel Cusk, a woman opens her guest house (“The Second Place”) to an artist for three months, hoping he’ll find a connection between her home and his work. What actually happens is much more confusing and unsettling.
Try writing about a memorable house-guest you’ve had at some point in your life, whether it’s your ex-pat uncle who visited once when you were nine or a visit from an old friend that sparked a new adventure. Remember, fiction is your friend (especially if you’ve got a house-guest story that caused, as the guest in Cusk’s novel did, substantial turmoil).
Submit your response by Sunday, August 15, 2022. All creative writing responses will be shared on @adkctr4writing and adirondackcenterforwriting.org. Note: You are expected to edit your own submission before sending it.
Please send me info about The Adirondack Center for Writing Residency from October 4 to October 18. I was not able to find more info on your website. I have a copy of the Poets & Writers Magazine issue for May/June 2020. I live in Manhattan, New York City. Thank you.
