The Adirondack Artists Guild, in partnership with the Adirondack Center for Writing, will present Responding II – 2020 as the featured exhibit in September, running from September 4 – 29.
This year has been marked by a tremendous amount of upheaval and uncertainty. Many of us have found our lives disrupted in a variety of interconnected ways, including the health, economic, social and psychological consequences of the coronavirus pandemic; the ongoing protests against systemic racism and social injustice; and the continued threats posed globally, nationally and locally by climate change.
Responding II – 2020 is open to the public and unjuried. All are invited to submit visual or written works in response to the exceptional circumstances in which we find ourselves this year. There is no entry fee.
Given the continued public health risks posed by COVID-19, this will be a virtual exhibit presented on AAG and ACW’s websites with only a few pieces displayed at the gallery. There will be no opening reception.
The Adirondack Artists Guild and the Adirondack Center for Writing join the Saranac Lake Area Chamber of Commerce and other local businesses in condemning the recent incident of racist graffiti in the village, as well as denouncing racism and bigotry in all its forms. We are committed to working to help make our beloved village a welcoming and safe place for residents and visitors alike. As artists, we champion the freedom of expression; however, we reserve the right to decline to exhibit work in our gallery or on our website that would be considered hate speech: that is, words or imagery that seek to harm or disparage any individual or group of people based on their race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, gender, sexual orientation, ability or immigration status.
The Adirondack Artists Guild is a cooperative retail art gallery representing a diverse group of artists residing and working in the Tri-Lakes region of the Adirondack Park. The gallery is located at 52 Main St, Saranac Lake, 518 891-2615. Check the website for gallery hours. The Guild is on Facebook, Instagram, and on the web at www.adirondackartistsguild.com.
The Adirondack Center for Writing has been bringing people and words together for over 20 years through provocative events and meaningful programs. For more info about ACW and their latest online offerings, visit www.adirondackcenterforwriting.org and follow @adkctr4writing on social media.
You might be at home, but you are not alone.
What remains during these tense times is ACW’s commitment to building spaces for healing together. Through weekly writing prompts and posted responses, new online classes, and the online display of PoemVillage, ACW is continuing to bring together community members like you during isolation and uncertainty.
Keeping ACW strong in these tense times now rests in the hands of faithful supporters like you. So, you are invited to give a gift of any amount. The recommended gift is just $5 a month. All gifts are significant in keeping ACW alive and well, so when this is all over ACW will be ready to re-launch the important programming you count on.
