I’ll be glad to lend a hand
to my next-door neighbor
even if he’s usually distant,
even if he’s five or six states away,
even if he lives on that other coast
or in some city I’ll never visit
because I don’t care for city life.

I’ll be glad to lend him a hand.

But that nasty guy on the news
(the one who keeps saying that
everything’s just fine, everyone
will get what they need, everyone
will get what they deserve
if they make the right choice
and vote for re-election)…No;
for him I will not lend a hand.

For him I have only one finger.
