I took a risk when I sailed
over the edge of the earth.
I knew that I would be
free falling,

tumbling about in the darkness
among the celestials,
like the moon and such.

Like a bird fallen out of a nest
plonked among life’s perils.
You only live so much.

Why not shoot for the stars?
Take aim for Venus, or Mars?

There is a certain everness
within our age of sails
when I, a Captain nonesuch,

took my ship across
the water’s edge, less guardrails,
having just the sea to touch.

The risk of which I had availed,
was mine ever from my birth.
And so, I am as is my destiny,
free falling.
