I am 10 years old – the forsythia bushes blooming in front of my house. Since I was small I could easily sit in the middle of them. The branches scratching me as I squeeze into another world. No one could see me – or so I thought. But I was in another world. Surrounded by sunshine formed into yellow blossoms. The smell of the awakening earth was intoxicating. (Though it would be years until I understood what that meant.) In my memory – The sky was always blue, though it would have made sense to hide there on grey days, I’m not sure I did. I would now. The woman I am now is still there. Younger every time I recall those moments of tasting sunshine!
